As part of our big Louisville trip this year we were really looking forward to reviewing the Baxter Ave Morgue for the first time in many years since it had been so impressive in the past. They were among the first haunts to invite us for the 2013 season, but upon our arrival their hospitality was not in line with expectations: VIP entry was only offered for two HHT reviewers.
The haunt owner seemed not to have much confidence in the quality of his haunt this year based on the fact that he didn’t want many people to review it. We were very disappointed in this because Baxter Ave Morgue had been a repeat Frightmaster Award winner in the past, and it seems that they are under new management and have slipped down a bit from one of the top haunts in the Louisville area.
Over the past few years it has only scored 5.4/10 on http://www.louisvillehalloween.com
We were told that the owner was “in a bad mood” and therefore didn’t want to let us in or give us any kind of a discount. It’s a shame because we were really looking forward to reviewing his haunt and he would have gotten hundreds of dollars in free publicity by being on our site. Unless they are a non-profit organization that’s not a great way to run a business, in our opinion.
I stopped going in 2010. Apparently once they got rid of the original designers (some married couple, I forget their names) they started taking out piece by piece all the things that made it so great. It used to be original and friendly, now it’s just more of the same as everywhere else.
